Interview: Patricia Shaw

In November the visiting director Dacapo Working Live, Patricia Shaw, came to Odense, and we took the opportunity to make an interview withher.

Well ... it was supposed to be an interview. But one single question was enough to trigger a conversation between Patricia, Lone Thellesen and Zoran Petrovic about dialog in different forms and through different media. The simple question was: "What are you doing - right now?".

It turned out, that Patricia is collaborating with scholars from different fields all working with communicative processes of organizations. All of them have a diferent focus, such as problems of organisation theories being to abstract to the daily life of organizations, the link between writing and speaking and recording voices having the searching qualities of spontaneous speaking.

"So basically we are all interested in something similar, but we come at it with different kind of experience. In other words the meetings and writings and voice databases of recordings and scholarly connection and strategy are all cross disciplinary inquiry of the communicative processes of organizations. And obviously the theatre work for me would be another entrance to the same terrain."

Patricia S

"We started to call our interdisciplinary work "the practice of noticing". Now we run one day work shops with exploring this idea, that there is a great deal, which is possible to notice in human communication.

The practice of all organisation practitioners depends on a increasing ability to be able to pay attention to all the improvised communicative activities that constitute the organisational life. And how do you intelligently draw attention to the conversation and shift itso it opens different avenues of action?"
